There can be lot of pressure to lose your virginity - that is, to have sexual intercourse for the first time. Having sex with someone just because you want to lose your virginity, or because you think all your friends are doing it, is something you may regret later.

It's natural to feel some worries but good communication will really help to prevent you feeling embarrassed or worried. You should be able to talk to your partner about how you feel about having sex for the first time, and about any concerns you may have. Your partner might be worried, too. Being relaxed and able to share things with your partner will really ease the tension. And if you're too shy, or you're not able to talk about these things with your partner - then you probably shouldn't be having sex!

Having sexual intercourse - when a boy's hard penis goes inside a girl's vagina, or even just touches the outside of her vagina - is what leads to pregnancy. So, before having sexual intercourse you should think about whether you need to use contraception to prevent unwanted pregnancy, and condoms to prevent Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).

It's very important not to feel pressurised into having sex when you don't really want to. Just because your friends say they are 'doing it' doesn't mean they are.

Thinking through all the implications of having sex can be a useful way of helping you arrive at a decision. There are lots of reasons why people don't want to have sex. You may feel that you are not ready emotionally. Being pushed into having sex could mean you regret it later on. Some people have quite strong religious or cultural beliefs. Some people call this decision to wait 'abstinence'. The decision to abstain from having sex can be either a long-term decision or a short-term one. Some people decide that they do not want to start having sex until they are married or in a significant long-term relationship. Other people may decide that having sex isn't the right thing for them at this particular time. Later on they may meet a person who they want and feel ready to have sex with. The decision whether to have sex or not is an important one. You should do what is right for you. It should be an informed decision, and not one based on fear or pressure from others.

How exactly do you have sexual intercourse? What position is best?

Sexual intercourse between a boy and a girl starts with both of them getting sexually excited as a result of kissing, stroking, caressing rubbing and touching each other. College girl killed as Sumo hits scooter

Two persons, including a girl student of Dera Bassi, were killed this morning in a head-on collision between a Tata Sumo and a scooter on the ‘killer’ Kalka-Ambala highway near Singhpura village, 2 km from here.

The student, Nidhi Jain (21), died on the spot. Four others were injured. The brother of Nidhi, Yatish Jain, was injured seriously. Nidhi was on the pillon of the scooter (PB-11R-8253) driven by her brother. An occupant of Sumo who died on the spot is to be identified. He died of electric shock as the Sumo rammed into an electricity pole on the highway.

The four-wheeler overturned after the incident, trapping the passengers inside.

Carrying 10 passengers, the Sumo (HR-56T- 2062) was on its way to Ambala when it collided with the scooter. Yatish Jain, a second year student of Dera Bassi Government College, sustained severe head injuries.

Eyewitnesses said the Sonepat-bound Sumo was overtaking a truck near the Silver City housing complex on the Ambala road when it collided with the scooter at 5.45 am.

Hearing a loud thud, two security guards, Manjit Singh and Surinder Singh, of the Silver City complex rushed to the spot and extricated the trapped passengers after disconnecting power supply to the electricity pole.

They also gave a call on 98140-17102, a 24-hour helpline number in Chandigarh.

Eyewitnesses said Yatish Jain and his sister were flung off the scooter.

Yatish was going to drop Nidhi at the Chandigarh Inter-State Bus Terminus since she was to go to Amritsar for academic work.

The police said both brother and sister were taken to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, in Chandigarh where doctors declared Nidhi “brought dead” while Yatish was referred to the PGI in Chandigarh.

The driver of the Sumo was returning to Delhi after dropping passengers in Shimla. While on his way back, he picked passengers for Ambala, Kurukshetra and Panipat. The unidentified passenger in the Sumo was on his way to Ambala from Pinjore, the police said.

As news of the death of the girl reached Dera Bassi, shopkeepers of the area pulled down shutters. A pall of gloom descended on Jain Mohalla, where the family of the victims resides.

The police has nabbed the driver, Harbinder Singh, of the four-wheeler. A case under Sections 279 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against him with Lohgarh police post.

Nidhi’s body was handed over to her family after post-mortem while the body of unidentified passenger of the Sumo has been sent to the Civil Hospital, Rajpura.

TITUSVILLE, Fla. -- A former Jackson Middle School teacher and her 16-year-old student apparently tried to coordinate the stories they told the Titusville police officers accusing them of having a sexual tryst.

It is not clear whether Janet L. Hughes, 32, and the boy knew the conversation they were having in the back of patrol cruiser was being recorded.

The seven-page transcript of the conversation was among investigative documents released by the State Attorney's Office to Local 6 News partner Florida Today. Those documents became public record after being requested by attorneys for Hughes, who faces one count of sexual battery on a child by a familial or custodial authority and attempted sexual battery on a child by a familial or custodial authority.

Hughes' attorney, Kepler Funk, did not return phone calls from Florida Today seeking comment.

The taped conversation included the student telling his teacher he'd wait two years to be with her, by which time he'd be 18. Other parts of the 45 pages of investigative documents cite the boy telling detectives and Hughes that he loved her.

Undercover Titusville police officers meeting to discuss an unrelated case found Hughes and the 16-year-old in a van parked at a church. Officers said they determined the two were about to have sex, and authorities said the two admitted to having sex before.

Hughes told detectives she was talking with the student about his personal problems as well as about her marital problems and should not have let the incident escalate as it did.

"Hughes indicated (the student) was showing her attention that sucked her in even though it's wrong," a detective wrote in a report.

The detective also wrote in his report that the student said the two had kissed in Hughes' classroom during school on the day police found them in the van.

During the recorded cruiser conversation:

Hughes indicated that she knew it was risky to come to that spot because she'd seen police there before. She told the student: "Why did I even come here knowing that, that I thought the other day when they were here it was like a one-time deal and that they would, they come here on a regular basis."

Hughes told the student that detectives asked her about the number of times they had been alone together and whether the two had had sex.

The boy replied, "Well, don't think of it as sex."

Hughes said, "Well, we didn't have sex today, no."

A court date is scheduled for Sept. 10 in the case.

Brevard Public Schools fired Hughes on May 8 because of violations of the teacher's code of conduct and has forwarded the incident to Florida Department of Education.

An arbiter has awarded the actress-singer just under $545,000 in her legal battle over a tell-all tome reportedly penned by former Lopez spouse Ojani Noa, Lopez's attorney confirmed Wednesday.

Paul Sorrell said he couldn't comment on his star client's reaction to the decision, but added, "I think she'd just like to see this be over."

Noa did not immediately return a message left seeking comment.

Lopez sued Noa, the first of her three husbands, in 2006 after the New York Post reported the ex was making the publishing rounds with a Lopez-themed book proposal.

In Lopez's lawsuit, the actress claimed that Noa's book was full of the sort of stuff that sells books: Namely, sex. (View the legal documents.)

According to the Lopez camp, the literary Noa accused Lopez of partaking in "multiple duplicitous sexual affairs" during the making of her 1997 monster thriller Anaconda and of running around with future third husband Marc Anthony while she was linked to Sean "Diddy" Combs, and Anthony was married to beauty queen Dayanara Torres.

While Lopez might have accused Noa of being ungentlemanly, her lawsuit actually accused him of breaking a confidentiality clause in a 2005 settlement which itself arose from a 2004 lawsuit filed by Noa. (For those keeping score at home, Noa sued Lopez when he was fired from her Southern California restaurant, Madre's; Lopez settled the case for $125,000 and a pledge that Noa would refrain from blabbing about "intimate details" of her or their relationship.)

The arbiter's decision was handed down in April. It was only recently uncovered by a local Los Angeles wire service after Lopez's camp filed papers Aug. 6 seeking a confirmation of the ruling by the L.A. County Superior Court.

Of the exactly $544,814.21 awarded to Lopez by the arbiter, $200,000 was for damages and the rest for attorney and arbitration fees.

The Aug. 6 court filing notes that Noa has not challenged the arbitration ruling. The state of Noa's would-be book was unknown.

"We don't know what he's doing," Sorrell said. "He may be out there trying to exploit this thing."

But finding a venue to do the exploiting seemingly would be tough to impossible. In 2006, Lopez obtained a still-standing preliminary injunction barring Noa from broadcasting, publishing or otherwise making money off Lopez-related "intimate details."

Noa, 33, wed Lopez, 38, in 1997. The former waiter and the then rising superstar divorced a year later.

When asked if he believed Noa had the $544,814.21 to make good on the arbitration judgment, Sorrell said, "Your guess is as good as mine."

India played a significant role in the history of sex, from writing the first literature that treated sexual intercourse as a science, to in modern times being the origin of the philosophical focus of new-age groups' attitudes on sex. It may be argued that India pioneered the use of sexual education through art and literature. As in all societies, there was a difference in sexual practices in India between common people and powerful rulers, with people in power often indulging in hedonistic lifestyles that were not representative of common moral attitudes.

Ancient times

Indian civilization can be considered amongst the most ancient with the ancient Indus Valley civilization being contemporary to ancient Egypt and Sumer, speading across modern India and Pakistan at its peak, 4000 years ago. During this period, not much is known about social attitudes toward sex. One thing that has been observed about sexuality in the Indus Valley civilization is the practice of fertility rituals. Early philosophy and theology related to sexuality may have developed during this time.

The first evidence of attitudes towards sex comes from the ancient texts of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, the first of which are perhaps the oldest surviving literature in the world. These most ancient texts, the Vedas, reveal moral perspectives on sexuality, marriage and fertility prayers. The epics of ancient India, the Ramayana and Mahabharata, which may have been first composed as early as 1400 BCE, had a huge effect on the culture of Asia, influencing later Chinese, Japanese, Tibetan and South East Asian culture. These texts support the view that in ancient India, sex was considered a mutual duty between a married couple, where husband and wife pleasured each other equally, but where sex was considered a private affair, at least by followers of the aforementioned Indian religions. It seems that polygamy was allowed during ancient times. In practice, this seems to have only been practiced by rulers, with common people maintaining a monogomous marriage. It is common in many cultures for a ruling class to practice polygamy as a way of preserving dynastic succession.

It is likely that as in most countries with tropical climates, Indians from some regions did not need to wear clothes, and other than for fashion, there was no practical need to cover the upper half of the body. This is supported by historical evidence, which shows that men and women in many parts of ancient India mostly dressed only the lower half of their bodies. Whilst this has changed in modern times, it is likely that taboo against nudity was not present in many Asian, African and South American civilisations as a matter of climatic necessity.

As Indian civilisation further developed over the 1500 years after the births of Buddha and Mahavira, and the writing of the Upanishads around 500 BCE, further historical evidence, art, and literature shows that ancient Indian society was perhaps as sexually tolerant as many modern European and East Asian countries.[citation needed] It was somewhere between the 1st and 6th centuries that the Kama Sutra, originally known as Vatsyayana Kamasutram ('Vatsyayana's Aphorisms on Love'), was written. This philosophical work on kama shastra, or 'love science', was intended as both an exploration of human desire, including seduction and infidelity, and a technical guide to pleasing a sexual partner within a marriage. This is not the only example of such a work in ancient India, but is the most widely known in modern times. It is probably during this period that the text spread to ancient China, along with Buddhist scriptures, where Chinese versions were written.

The Tantric school of Indic/Hindu philosophy formed at some point in this period, and part of the philosophical system was the idea that sex, as a basic and powerful desire experienced by all humans, could be utilised as a way of achieving enlightenment. Some ardent devotees of this system for example might deliberately break sexual taboos that were ridiculed, such as extra-marital sex, to master human nature and achieve greater understanding of the universe, their soul. The Tantric tradition spread throughout Asia as far as Japan, and also had an influence on Sufism.

I recently watched an entertainment show that aired photos of Britney and Paris partying and having fun. One photo included Paris holding Britney's 2 month old son Jayden while they were shopping. A divorce attorney spoke about concerns regarding Britney's desire to seek custody of her children. The pop idol has recently filed for divorce from her husband, Kevin Federline. According to the attorney, late-night partying may have negative effects on Britney's request for custody.

Federline is also reportedly seeking child custody. I do not see anything wrong with Britney Spears and Paris Hilton becoming best friends. The two are both adults who can make their own choices about how they live. However, Britney Spears may want to postpone her late night escapades until her divorce is settled. The tabloids have tracked and exploited big mistakes that she has made as a parent. The media has created a history of Britney Spears' poor parenting skills.

She has been accused of child endangerment in the past. It may not be wise for Britney Spears to party at this time. Her children will suffer if they are the subjects of a nasty custody battle. I have become curious about Federline's parenting skills. Entertainment shows broadcast clips of him flying around the country. His profession may be a concern when it comes to have custody of their children. One good thing about Britney Spears is that she is already worth about $120 million dollars. She doesn't have to make another album or perform during a worldwide tour. Kevin federline is currently on tour promoting his new album titled "Playing with Fire".

His lifestyle may not demonstrate the stability necessary for raising a child. Federline's album title sounds perfect for the real-life drama between him and Britney Spears. Both of them have a lot to lose if they don't exhibit good parenting skills. They may have trouble obtaining custody of their children. Federline might have a better chance, despite his unstable lifestyle. There are many music performers who have custody of their children. Britney's net worth may allow her to be granted custody. However, her history as a neglectful parent may come back to haunt her. Until then, it looks like she will be playing with Paris Hilton.

While speaking on the phone with MIA from London, England, where she's working on a mixtape for DJ Eli that she wants to call Threat To Homeland Security (her name was taken off the Homeland Security list four days before our interview), one quickly gets the impression that the outspoken queen of nu-world dance music isn't letting all the hype swirling around her and the upcoming Kala album go to her head.

"At this point no one can tell me what [kind of album] to make, I'm too opinionated," says MIA (a.k.a. Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam) kindly, but bluntly. "I also came out of nowhere so they don't even know what they want to tell me to do.

"This is what caused my Three 6 Mafia problems," she goes on to explain about working with the group on two tracks for Kala, neither of which made the cut. "When I went to work with them they were like, 'Right, you're a girl, we need you to sing about sex.'

"And I was like, 'Listen, I have some time to sing with you and I'm not going to sing about sex right now. You're going to have to get Paris Hilton for this one.'"

MIA travelled the world and worked with such producers as Timbaland, Switch, Diplo and Danja while making Kala, and she found being a female to be one of her biggest challenges.

"In India it was hard because I'm a woman. People would say, 'Uh� you're a girl, you can't tell us what to do.' But you had to work with that. I got used to it and I didn't have time to fight that battle. I had Dave [Switch] joined to my hip and I would have to tell him what to do, and then he would have to tell them.

"Also, while recording in these different places, in the back of my head I kept thinking, 'Oh, I've only got this much time before I have to get back to London to refresh my visa.' At the end of the day, it came down to that a lot of the time."

MIA's been plagued with visa issues ever since her 2005 debut came out. And Kala — a less political, but brilliantly catchy, Bollywood-tinged effort — was heavily influenced by the situations she found herself in. Being stranded without demos, computers, her art and even clothes on occasion, the new album had MIA starting from scratch and having fun, but never losing sight of who she was.

"I could have left where I am and be a superstar MC living in Beverly Hills in a giant house with Gwen Stefani, but I didn't 'cause I couldn't," she says proudly. "People try to get me to collaborate or do things, but sometimes I say no because I'm just not ready.

"I know they're doing it for my own good. They say, 'Why don't you want this? You'll be huge. Don't you want to chart?'

"But I don't give a shit about the charts. I will not be an artist dictated by the charts. They tell me I'm too gangsta, but this is me. I have to stick to what I am."

MIA will play Toronto's Virgin Festival on Sept. 8 and Montreal's Osheaga Music And Arts Festival a day later.

Bollywood's 'Brangelina' take city by storm

Ah, Bollywood. While Canada's film industry is content on focusing on weird sex and snowshoes, India is constantly churning out epic productions that contain more song and dance numbers than an evening on Broadway. Whatever works, we say.

In keeping with the Bollywood success story, a 26-city Bollywood “musical extravaganza” will touch down in Toronto next summer. On hand to preview The Unforgettable Tour were India’s first couple of showbiz, Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan. Though there is no set date or venue, more than 100 reporters and others packed the Imperial Room at the Royal York for yesterday’s spectacle.

The Post’s Mark Medley reports with his Toronto timeline:

9:21 a.m. I spy a lavish breakfast spread; grab a croissant and pineapple.

9:40 Flipping through a copy of yesterday’s National Post, I read the review of Aishwarya Bachchan’s new movie, The Last Legion. Reviewer Jay Stone calls it a “boldly dopey epic.” Not a good omen.

10:07 For some strange reason, the press is treated to a video about the International Indian Film Academy Awards. Jean-Claude Van Damme makes a cameo.

10:20 There’s a flurry of activity. Teenage screams erupt from the lobby. Dozens of camera flashes illuminate the room. It’s Dalton McGuinty! Oh, and Aishwarya and her husband, Abhishek. She’s dressed all in black, and glides through the media horde on her husband’s arm.

10:28 Dalton McGuinty: “We like to think of ourselves as Bollywood West.” He also asks for a role in a Bollywood movie.

10:30 They screen a movie about the tour’s promoter, Wizcraft International, which sounds like a construction company run by wizards.

10:38 Viraf Sarkari, director of Wizcraft — he is a kind of Gandalf, I guess — says The Unforgettable Tour will be “the biggest tour ever.” He then presents yet another movie, this time showcasing various Bollywood stars.

10:40 Aishwarya takes the podium and spouts platitudes for about 30 seconds, then turns the microphone over to her husband.

10:42 Abhishek promises the tour will raise awareness for a worthwhile cause. I just bet it’s global warming. And it is! He also reveals they hope to premiere the tour in Toronto. Oh, Abhishek, you flirt, I bet you tell every city that. Let the hyperbole commence.

10:46 Abhishek: “We promise something very big.”

10:48 Viraf: “We are going to be the best show ever!” Not bad.

10:49 Moe Jiwan, director of Ethnic Guru: “Probably the biggest show to hit the Earth!” We have a winner.

11:01 During the question and answer period, a “journalist” gushes on and on about how she once met Abhishek at the film festival and how she feels she’s come “full circle” because she’s speaking to him today. Who are these people?

11:14 A beauty pageant contestant asks Aishwarya (who was Miss World in 1994) for advice. They told me you needed media accreditation to get in.

11:23 The press conference finished, I wait out in the lobby with the fans. Shaguftah, 23, from Hamilton, wears a homemade shirt with Abhishek’s face on it. “I love his dance moves.” She’s been waiting here since 8:30. As the Brangelina of India come out, fans immediately surround them. Shaguftah gets her poster signed. “It was incredible,” she swoons.

I can't expose unreasonably. I did what I feel was the requirement of the story. But my director wanted me do some more hot scenes for the promo, which I refused, because that was getting too much. The director insisted which resulted in little argument. I told her that I can't cross my limits. If she feels that I am unprofessional, let her feel so but I can't do something that makes me uncomfortable.

Did you face any problem in doing kiss scenes in the film?
No, I am as comfortable giving a kiss shot as any other actress. I don't have any reservations at all. Whether it's Emraan or anybody else, if the film requires a kiss scene, I will go for it.

But it was said that you refused to allow Emraan Hashmi to kiss you Dil Diya Hai?
The film had no such scene. In fact the requirement of the scrip was different. I never said that I won't do kissing scene with him.

Actresses feel apprehensive owing to Emraan's serial kisser image. Were you also scared before doing Dil Diya Hai?
No. I was not scared at all. Since, I had not met him ever, so there was a little concern about who I was going to work with. But when I worked with him I realized that he is a genuine and very professional person. I share very good rapport with him.

Your screen character in Train falls in love with a married person. Has it happened with you in real life?
No, neither I have never fallen in love with a married man nor have I any plans in the future.

Farah Khan set to make music video with Shakira

Mumbai, Sep 3 - It is not often that an Indian choreographer gets an opportunity to train an international star. But choreographer-turned-filmmaker Farah Khan is one of the lucky ones. She was invited to choreograph pop star Shakira's hit number 'Hips don't lie' for the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards in New York City's Radio City Music Hall.

And the Latin pop star is so impressed with her work that she has asked Farah to choreograph a video for her.

'Shakira and I have connected beautifully. She loves the movements that I've given her, so much so that she now wants me to do a music video for her. She's now into classical Indian dancing. In fact, she hired an Indian lady in Chicago to teach her classical mudras (hand postures).'

Apparently, Shakira is a big fan of Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan.

'She has seen my 'Chaiyyan chaiyyan' song from 'Dil Se'. She keeps pointing to Shah Rukh in the song and exclaims, 'know that guy.' I told her he's the Tom Cruise of India. I've promised her I'd put her on top of a train when I do a music video with her.'

Shakira performed her item at Radio City with some mudras last week.

Farah feels the singer resembles an Indian princess from the 'Amar Chitra Katha' comic books.

'We gave her a mixture of the Indian and the Columbian look, down to a veil covering her face. Shakira looks very much like one of those classical Indian princess from the 'Amar Chitra Katha' comic books.

'Nearer our films, the parallel would be the 'Amrapali' costumes that all our heroines from Vyjayanthimala to Sridevi have worn in our films. All I can tell you is Shakira is damn hot, damn Indian.'

When asked was she nervous before the show, Farah said: 'I'm never stressed about anything I do these days. I only get stressed about my husband and his film.

'But yes, Shakira gave me only two days to rehearse and what we've achieved should make all of us in Bollywood proud.'

Farah's husband Shirish Kunder is readying for the Diwali release of his directorial debut 'Jaan-E-Mann' starring Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta.

There was a boom of female newcomers in Bollywood this year. Some of them featuring on the silver screen had already made their mark on television and created a strong impression on the audiences. While for some, this was the first encounter with camera. Some debutants of this year were quite talented while some others desperately need to relearn their acting lessons well. On the whole, very few actresses who entered Bollywood this year seemed to have the capabilities of being successful in long term.

Ilene Hamman, the South African beauty, was the first to go on the list of newcomers this year with the film Rog. Ilene, a Pooja Bhatt discovery, had a good screen presence, but she was expressionless in most situations.

Antonia Bernath, a British actress, was launched by Subhash Ghai in Kisna. A student of Bristol's Old Vic Theatre School, Antonia opted out from the school when her agent asked her to audition for Kisna and luckily she bagged the role. She handled a very challenging role given to her responsibly and gracefully. Kisna's second girl too was a debutante. Isha Sharvani, the daughter of renowned dancer Daksha Sheth, played the second female lead in Kisna but could display her dancing and dangling-from-trees skills more than her acting prowess.

After working in some offbeat films, Nandana Sen made her debut in mainstream cinema in Black and was impressive in a small but significant role. She was also seen in Tango Charlie and My Wife's Murder.

Anjana Sukhani was another newcomer who appeared to be supremely talented but got rather unnoticed. Anjana appeared in a number of commercials and also played a small part with Hrithik in Na Tum Jaano Na Hum. The actress finally got her major break in Kushan Nandy's Humdum. Anjana handled her part like a true professional in the film and is currently working on Nikhil Advani's Salaam-e-Ishq.

Tamanna was ok in Chand Sa Roshan Chera but made more news when her pictures were wrongly plastered all over claiming to be those of the controversial bar-dancer Tarannum. Sneha Ullal was one of the highest attention-grabbing debutants this year. Spotted first by Salman Khan's sister, the young college student was made to appear like an exact look alike of Aishwarya Rai in Salman Khan's in Lucky - No Time For Love with ease. Next she is going to appear in Sohail Khan's Aryan.

Mona Chopra made her debut in the skin-flick Time Pass. Reportedly she has now been rechristened as Maneka and plans to re-debut with her new name in Vinod Sins Pande's Red Swastik. Ex-Miss Madhya Pradesh Tanvi Verma who made news for some explicit photo-shoots made a cold debut in Bold.

Tanushree Dutta was the latest of beauty queens to join the movie business. The ex-Miss India was an okay actor in Aashiq Banaya Apne and seemed to concentrate more on makeup and outfits. She also starred in Chocolate this year.

Sushma Reddy made her big screen debut with Chocolate. She was cute in the film but didn't have much to do as a performer. Annabelle Wallace appeared photogenic and acted pretty well in Dil Jo Bhi Kahey. National award winning Bengali actress Rituparna Sengupta made a confident debut to Hindi films with Main Meri Patni Aur Who.

Television actresses Sonal Sehgal and Kranti Redkar were quite competent but went unobserved in the smalltime flick U, Bomsi N Me. Sophie Chaudhary was first seen on television quite a few years back when she was a part of a girl band from UK. She then disappeared and came back as VJ on MTV. This UK based Indian beauty made her Bollywood debut with Shaadi No.1 this year.

Daisy Bopanna, Nargis and Neetu Chandra were efficient in Garam Masala. Sonya Jehan, the grand daughter of the famous Pakistani singer Noor Jehan finally made her debut in the long-delayed Taj Mahal. "Tera Mera Rishta" comes out as original composition from rock band "Roxen-the band", a sentimental rock ballad with a strong musical backdrop of Southeast Asian music. This song about eternal bonding has peculiar auto-phonic musical base with ethnically matched sensual feminine "alaaps", exhibiting a situational mushy feel. The serpentine flowing flute notes along with quivering synthesizer notes sets an impressive prelude to the song. DJ Suketu's rip-roaring DJ claps; scratches and thumps collide effectively with racy paced musical backdrop in creating a havoc of emotions. This blazing musical offering is presumed to be ground-breaking in its cadre as the number proved to be globe-trotting hit and promises to be eye candy with its lustrous visual binge. If Bhatt's gambit of pitching female vocal talents succeeds as it did in male talents then the listeners can hear talents like Fariha Parvez, Abida Parveen, Farah Hassan and Shabnam Majeed in future.

Divinity strikes the final blow as the pious feel of "spiritualism" is ushered through the traditional Sufi works of twelfth century poet Baba Farid in sensitively delivered "Maula Mere Maula". Rafaqat Ali Khan, the last among Pakistani talents renders this spiritual number in a classical vocal mode with finesse of unadulterated classical instrumental work. It has classy appeal and acceptance as it flourishes in ethnic Sufi work where beats and rhythms from conventional instruments like "harmonium", "sarangi", "tabla", "sitar" strikes a fine "jugalbandi" with electric guitar strumming. Rafaqat's vocal finesse can be sorted in the genre of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for its flawless classical textures.

Awarapan proves to be launching pad for unexplored Pakistani pop talents as it delivers an assorted collection of their hot "n" happening upbeat tracks in a rearranged musical mode. Mustafa Zahid's stylish "Toh Phir Aao" (all versions) and Annie's voguish "Mahiya" are expected to be chartbusters in coming weeks while "Tera Mera Rishta" and "Maula Mere Maula" impresses for their strong melodramatic appeal. It would have been better if Mustafa's most saleable tracks like "Yaadein", "Aaj" or "Sapney" would have been given a boost in the album. Pritam adds one more feather in his cap and this time as a competent re-arranger than a composer.

A kiss among international celebrities is often given prominent coverage here. Bill Clinton kissing Hillary on the forehead will be an item. Tennis star Andre Agassi likes to plant sweaty, lingering kisses on his wife Steffi Graf between games and victories, and India learns all about it on the front page. When Indian actress Shabana Azmi planted a "freedom kiss" on Nelson Mandela, the media caught it all.

We Indians like to believe that ours is a liberal country, but we don't react any better than Pakistan when our women kiss or are kissed by foreign men. Young, overeager and beautiful actress Padmini Kohlapure sent the tabloids into a tizzy when she went "all the way" with Prince Charles.

Just about the only instances of public kissing here involve foreigners. A crowd of hangers-on will accumulate for a close-up of the action, which can happen on a street or a market place. Some even have a camera ready to take pictures.

Does it really matter?

How desperate is the media? If having the Page 3 culture wasn't bad enough, the reader has to put up with sensationalism in the name of news on every tabloid, national news in print, television and the Internet.

Okay, granted not every reader buys the whole Cinema Paradiso theory, some of them want simply frivolous information on their favourite stars: choice of food, films, clothes, colours, the works.

But do you really want to know how they kiss? How much tongue? How much saliva? Borrowing from Dustin Hoffman (Midnight Cowboy), excuse my vulgarity. But seriously, at the end of 2004, no one gives a damn. People have enough emotional baggage of their own to care about these so-called demigods.

A lot of moral, legal, personal opinions have cropped in the midst of this controversy.

Here is a penny for my thoughts.

First things first, why so much hue and cry over kissing in public? Don't you see a dating or married couple doing 'it' all the time? It's a part and parcel of any 'man-woman' relationship. And, if indeed it was the aforementioned Bollywood couple, at an alleged suburban Mumbai pub, then I would like to point out one thing. What purpose does a pub really serve? Alcohol, comes the answer. So if you can have pubs for public drinking, which is technically not in the liver's best interests, how does kissing there in the dimly lit setting corrupt the gullible public?

Bipasha Basu experienced some unpleasant incidents during her stay in London where they were shooting for Vivek Agnihotri’s Goal.

Says a source from the sets, “Bipasha was shooting a scene in a room inside a studio. There was a crowd of NRIs watching the shoot. At one point an NRI walked in and pinched her bottom. Vivek, who was watching the shot on his monitor in another room, was shocked to see this on his screen. Bipasha was shocked too, and she screamed. John, who was around, pulled the guy by his neck and threw him out of the room.”

But that was not the end of Bips’ troubles. She encountered the guy again on a different occasion and location, later. “We were shooting outdoors, on a street, when suddenly we saw a huge crowd coming towards the shooting scene. The guy who had misbehaved earlier was actually seen headed towards Bipasha once again. Bipasha had no option but to run from the sets. It was an important shot but we couldn’t shoot it the way we had planned, and had to leave the location!” says the source.

In another incident the security on the sets of Goal tried to stop some NRIs who came in their sports car, from entering the premises. In response, they rammed their car into the security personnel injuring them badly. “They were furious at not being let in,” reveals the source.

Adds the source, “When we told them that we’d call the cops, they simply laughed and made rude remarks.”

When contacted, Vivek Agnihotri said, “There were unfortunate incidents that happened during our shooting schedule in London and Glassy Junction. Bipasha and the cast did face some trouble but we finally finished our shoot. I am a very strong-headed person and so is my team, so all these incidents did not deter us from completing our shoot.”

Dino Morea and Bipasha Basu surprised everyone when they were spotted together at the launch of Rocky S’s new store in town last Monday. Now there are reports that both, Dino and Bipasha, were inseparable at the recently concluded IIFA awards in Yorkshire.

This raises the inevitable question - are the two working towards reconciliation? Friends close to them have confirmed that the two are working on their relationship to rid themselves of the ‘ex’ tag. That should be soothing for Bipasha, whose relationship with John has been coasting on troubled waters for a while now.

An eye-witness from the recently-concluded International Indian Film Awards (IIFA) says, “Both Dino and Bipasha were seen backstage and they seemed pretty comfortable with each other. All through the show, they were seen holding hands backstage. While there is already a lot of talk about them, after they arrived together at Rocky’s show, the fact that they were together at IIFA has added more fuel to the rumours. They were backstage catching up with each other while the actors were performing and they made no bones about it.”

Another source at IIFA says, “Both Dino and Bipasha have stayed friends even after their break-up a few years ago. It was like two old buddies catching up for Dino and Bipasha and they were extremely comfortable with each other. However, Dino seemed very happy and pretty excited.”

Rumours also suggest that Dino is keen to work with Bipasha and has also asked a couple of corporate houses to work on a subject around them.

Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea dated for more than two years before breaking up in mid-2002. They met when they were modelling and were one of the most talked about couples of Bollywood. Incidentally, Dino was on Bipasha’s side when she first made her debut with Ajnabee. After that, they paired up for one of the biggest hits of 2002 - Vikram Bhatt’s Raaz. They mutually agreed to break up, but have remained friends ever since. Dino went on to date designer Nandita Mahtani and Bipasha is dating John Abraham who made his debut in Jism with her.

This is a very common question but I still would want to ask you…..did you always want to be a model and actress?
No. I had never thought that I would be a model. I wanted to be a Doctor (laughs) but then here I am. I got sick with the thought of dissecting rats and stuff and after 12th I took commerce. I was planning to do chartered accountancy when one day I met Mehr Jessia in a hotel in Calcutta and she suggested that I take part in the Godrej Cinthol Supermodel contest. I did, I won and the rest is history. I got good offers and though I was hesitant at first but then I just decided I will give acting a shot. Well I worked hard and hard work always pays.

How do you feel now that "Jism" is a hit?
I am very happy. I am told that people loved it and they appreciate my work. And I knew from day one that this film would be a hit because the concept is brilliant. It is a very different and bold film. The topic and scenes have been handled very beautifully and delicately.

Wasn't it difficult shooting the love-scenes?
Well the story demanded the love scenes but it's not sex all the time. Jism is an emotional film, a mature love story. There were bound to be kissing scenes. But the scenes in Jism were not vulgar and forced. Those scenes are infact an integral part of the script and they have been handled very well. I enjoyed working in the movie because I believed in it and that makes portraying the given character easy. I was completely comfortable doing those scenes. Nobody forced me and told me "You have to do this". I agreed to do what I thought I would be comfortable with.

One thing you have to admit that the sex scenes in the film did lure public to the theatres.
Well India is a country that is full of hypocrites. We have made sex a taboo and because of that people here crave for sex. Anything to do with sex will attract them no doubt and initially yes, people did go to see that but there is much more in the film rather than sex. Jism is a love story which believes that attraction draws people together. Falling in love too has a lot to do with attraction. That is something that is neglected and overlooked in Hindi films. They only show girls and boys singing, dancing and fighting with their families. And the audience has realized that after watching the film. Those who have seen the film didn't come out of the theatres saying that "Oh shit that was one hot film." They all have enjoyed the story on the whole.

The film industry is famous for branding actors with the character they portray best. Didn't you feel apprehensive about being tagged as a sex symbol?
Well guess what "I love being called sexy!" Andthat is because it comes naturally to me (smiles). In personal life I am sexy and I think every actress wants to be called sexy and thrives hard to look sexy on screen. But in my case I didn't have to work hard to achieve that sexy tag, it just followed me automatically and I take it as a compliment. And frankly speaking I would never want to take off that sexy tag.

I have to admit that you really had guts to accept the role because not too many actresses would have dared to do what you did?
(Surprised) Well about that I don't really know but one thing I would like to tell you is that when I entered the industry I had told myself that I wouldn't do insignificant roles. I always wanted to do things that other actresses would think 100 times whether to do or not. Jism was a superb project and I knew that it was meant only for me. I had the guts to take on the role and now I'm being praised for my efforts (Smiles proudly). I'm really grateful to the media for their support. It's praise from them that will egg on more film-makers to experiment with such daring themes. What we need today is good script. I'm bored watching films with similar stories; therefore it's high time we gave them something different.

Did your relationship with John help you while enacting those hot scenes?
Well John was definitely a great help and it was infact easy to do the love scenes but I think I would have done it with any other co-star. The truth is when I signed the film I didn't know John and who was going to be my co-star. But without John around I don't know how the scenes would have looked. We were both very comfortable while doing those scenes.

How do you react to stories about you and John?
I'm not saying anything (Laughs). Let the press write what they want. They can link me with anyone as long as the men are good-looking. Those who need to know will know!

There was lot of controversy about you refusing Madhur Bhandarkar's Police Force. What was the reason?
Actually this whole issue of my refusing Madhur's film has been grossly exaggerated. Madhur is a good film-maker and Chandni Bar is one of my fave films. I was excited when he approached me for Police-Force but after hearing the subject, I realised the subject was a male-dominated one. It also has three heroines. Naturally I would have very little to do. Therefore I told him on our second meeting itself that I was not interested and he was cool with it. There's absolutely no tension between Madhur and me. In fact I've just been offered Vijay Galani's next film, being directed by Madhur.

It was also reported that you didn't want to play Amitabh Bachchan's love interest in the film "Aan" offered by Madhur Bhandarkar because Amitabh Bachchan is 30 yrs elder to you.
Good God!! who comes up with such stories. Well excuse me but I would love to play his love interest in any film. Amitabh Bachchan may be double my age but there can definitely be an attraction between us. Forget films, even in real life there are couples who are 30 years apart in age who're romantically drawn to each other. The fact is the film that was offered to me gave me very little scope and so I was not interested.

Why did you turn down Boney Kapoor's film?
It was offered to me but nobody gave me story narration. Then something happened. I'm sure it must be dates (Laughs). That's one of the reasons I can't take on many projects. I'm also pretty honest with producers when the role they offer isn't up to the mark. I'm not expecting to be offered branded roles but they should be substantial. I want my due as an actress.

What other films do you have on hand?
There's Vikram Bhatt's Aitbaar with Amitabh Bachchan and John Abraham. I'm also doing Vikram's Footpath with Aftab Shivdasani. There's Rohit Shetty's Zameen with Abhishek Bachchan. I play an airhostess in the film. It is about hijacking. I was offered another fabulous film with Abhishek. Unfortunately, I had to turn it down because I did not have the dates. Lara (Dutta) is doing that role now. There's also Glen and Ankush's Jaane Kya Hoga with Aftab again. It's about human cloning. I have also agreed to do Mani Shankar's Rudraksh with Sanjay Dutt. I'm also doing a film being directed by Krishna Babu in which I'm this sweet, simple, Muslim girl called Khushboo who falls in love with a Hindu boy.

Tell us something about Vikram Bhatt's Aitbaar.
Aitbaar is the story of girl who is torn between her father and lover. Her father, played by Amitabh Bachchan, has lost a child in the riots. He is convinced that her boyfriend, played by John Abraham, is not the right guy for her. The lover is possessive, the father obsessive. And this complicates the girl's life.

How was it working with Amitabh Bachchan?
It has been an extraordinary experience. He is a pro. He comes on the dot and is very composed on the sets. I have a lot to learn from him.

So what is the story of Footpath?
Footpath is the story of four friends and how they get embroiled in drug trafficking. I play Rahul Dev's sister and Aftab's friend. The four grow up on the footpath. I'm the only one to have had a sheltered upbringing. I choose not to associate myself with my brothers on moral grounds. It is basically a male dominated film but I play an important role.

Now tell us about your Coke commercial with Hrithik Roshan?
Oh, Hrithik is such a good-looking guy and an absolute sweetheart. I really enjoyed shooting with him. However it's a pity the ad is delayed because of some problems. Hope things are sorted out soon.

Now on the professional front, your relationship with Dino was going on very steadily then what went wrong?
Well it's really difficult to say. Maybe our priorities changed and we were not ready to compromise on any front. We began going steady when we were very young and vulnerable. Today, we are all grown up and different people. Thankfully, Dino and I are still the best of friends. We still go out. We are doing films together. What's changed is that we are not girlfriend and boyfriend anymore. And I think in today's day and age that's insignificant. What matters is friendship!

Do you regret anything in your life?
No. I am happy with what I have and the way my life has shaped up. I only believe in hard work and to succeed in life you have to be sincere with what you are doing and do it with all your heart.

Who is the most beautiful woman in the world? Half a century ago, Hollywood would have presented her to us. Grace Kelly, Ingrid Bergman or perhaps Elizabeth Taylor.

But today? Correspondent Bob Simon reports the woman who currently holds the title, at least according to thousands of Web sites, Internet polls and even Julia Roberts, is someone you've probably never heard of.

Her name is Aishwarya Rai, and she is an actress living and working in Bombay, India. The reigning queen of Indian cinema, and also a classically trained dancer, Rai has starred in 24 films over the last seven years.

That may seem like a lot of movies, but Bollywood, India’s film capital, is famous for churning out more movies a year than Hollywood. Three new films are produced and distributed worldwide every day, attracting a global audience of 5 billion people. That’s twice the reach of Hollywood.

The reason Bollywood films have such universal appeal is because they’re squeaky-clean. There are no sex scenes, not even kissing. Every time you think someone’s going to do it, they'll burst into song instead.

"I'd assume that's really a reflection of our society," Rai says, when asked to explain the films' modesty. "Of course people kiss and of course people have a very healthy love life. This is the land of the Kama Sutra. But nevertheless, in our society you don't really see people around the street corner kissing or being extremely, overtly, physically demonstrative publicly. They do it privately but not publicly."

Unlike some of her Hollywood counterparts, Rai's very much like the women she portrays: wholesome, dutiful and deeply religious. So much so, she insisted we visit her favorite temple for this interview. It’s more than 200 years old and every week more than 100,000 people come from all over India to make offerings and pray to Lord Ganesh, the half-elephant/half-man Hindu god of happiness.

At the temple, Rai started attracting more worshippers than Lord Ganesh.

She says being treated as sort of a goddess in this way, "makes me feel guilty. I'll be very honest. When there's a distraction at the place of worship I kinda get a bit guilty. And I kind of say, 'Lord, forgive me. This isn't intended.'"

Despite the attention, Rai says she doesn’t think much about the way she looks.

Mumbai, Jan 22 (IANS) It's official: Bollywood superstars Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai are being paired for the first time in the much talked about sequel to "Dhoom". And that's not all: they are playing the baddies.

Hrithik is thrilled to be the villain. "I've played the good guy long enough. Now it's time for me to get seriously evil," he laughed.

"I always wanted to play a cool villain. And since the bad guy in 'Dhoom 2' is multi-dimensional, I'll have so much fun with the character. Playing this nightmarish guy is a dream come true," Hrithik told IANS.

The sequel, a hi-tech thriller to be directed once again by Sanjay Gadhvi, boasts a profusion of special effects and action spectacles and is being touted as "bigger, costlier and more in-your-face than 'Dhoom'".

The film brings together the untried pair of Hrithik and Aishwarya, with the "Bride and Prejudice" star playing the villain's girlfriend.

Hrithik and Aishwarya have repeatedly missed the chance of appearing together. Just after the release of "Kaho Na...Pyar Hai", the two were supposed to appear in director Tanuja Chandra's wartime love story about a nurse and a soldier.

More recently Hrithik and Aishwarya were all but signed for Rakesh Roshan's sequel to "Koi...Mil Gaya".

With the Khans - Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir - out of her orbit (Aamir is miffed because she turned down "The Rising"), Aishwarya is desperately in need of dependable and saleable heroes.

"How many films can I do with Ajay Devgan and Sanjay Dutt?" she said.

They would make an interesting pair especially since both go into mean mode for "Dhoom 2".

After her guest appearance in "Bunty Aur Babli" with the Bachchans, "Dhoom 2" would be another major step into the fold of Yashraj Films for Aishwarya.

Sanjeev Kohli, CEO of Yashraj Films told IANS: "We've been in talks with Aishwarya and Hrithik for a while. The two stars are cast in very different roles. Also the fact that they've never appeared together before adds to the film's USP."

There were rumors in Media that Aishwarya rai and Abhishekh Bachchan were expecting their Baby.

Contrary to certain reports, Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan are not becoming dada-dadi soon. On Thursday, a daily put out the news that Aishwarya Rai is preggers and the entire Bachchan clan is in celebratory mode.
